of the Turtle, Harvey McLain draws on years of tasting gourmet foods
and artisan breads from around the world when choosing the products
offered for sale in the Turtle's International Grocery. On a trip to
Italy, after a day of walking around the Roman ruins and climbing the
Coliseum, Harvey was famished and foot-sore. After passing several bright
and boisterous restaurants full of tourists, he found a small, quiet
trattoria. Harvey walked in, sat down, and was immediately poured a
glass of Cesanese and brought a basket of warm, crusty bread.
The wine warmed the weary traveler, the bread offering lifted his spirits, and he found the strength to reach for the olive oil sitting quite unceremoniously on the table. As Harvey poured some of the vibrant green oil onto his plate, he was carried to a simpler time, a more pure place - the aroma made him think of all things good and true. And then! Oh, then, he tore off a piece of bread, sopped up the golden goodness and found the reason why the Romans have lived so long - the promise of this oil every day would make an empire thrive.
